Many people adopt themes in their home whether in certain bedrooms or throughout the whole house, whether it be a Mexican look, or country, Italian, retro, modern, funky etc. Having this theme is great for giving your home and rooms some character and it must be reflected in your lights as well. You may even be thinking of throwing a party with a theme in which case again the lights need to be changed to accommodate for this theme. The lighting and lights of an event or a room make a huge difference, imagine going to a Halloween party with bright lights shining all night, you wouldn’t be able to relax and it certainly wouldn’t feel like Halloween. Once you have decided on your theme you need to think about what type of lights will fit in with this. This is where you need to do some research either online or through magazines. Not only look at the styles of lighting used but the colours as well. A funky and modern theme usually has silver chrome fixtures with clean white lighting. A retro room would look great with red lighting and so you could go for a red light or even change the bulb to a red one. Turn your standard kitchen into a Mexican kitchen and have lots of colours coming from lights and from different angles. Your theme may be simply a choice of three colours such as white, black and red and so you can follow this in your lighting as well. Italians love extravagant lighting fixtures and low hanging pendants which can look fabulous in your kitchen / dining room, living rooms and even bedrooms. The key is to really understand your theme and go for lights that bring out the theme even more in the room.
