How To Clean Crystal Chandeliers
Having a crystal chandelier in your hallway, living room, or dinning area is a great way of adding elegance and style to your home. If you have ever had crystal chandeliers before you will be very aware that they need a clean every once in a while to give it that shine and sparkle. If you are new to having crystal chandeliers in your home you will no doubt be wondering how to go about cleaning such a large and intricate lighting fixture. Here is a look at some do’s and don’ts when cleaning your crystal chandelier.
Do be safe – turn off the light at the switch before you begin to avoid being shocked. You can always place a piece of tape on the light switch as well so other people in the house do not turn it on by accident while you are cleaning the chandelier. Place a towel underneath the crystal chandeliers incase one of the crystals falls from the chandelier. The towel will reduce the probability of the crystal being damaged by hitting the floor.
Do clean every few months – you will notice that your crystal chandelier will need a clean every few months, some people do it more regularly but at the very least every few months to keep it looking sparkly and dazzling.
Don’t twist – when you are up on your ladder cleaning the crystals on the chandelier it is very tempting to want to twist or rotate the chandelier to clean all around. Do not do this as it will damage the lighting fixture and it is very dangerous for you. Come down off the ladder and reposition to go back up and clean the other side.
You can mix your own solution – you don’t have to buy cleaning solution for your chandelier from the supermarket you can make your own. You can mix a solution with 1 part alcohol or ammonia in 3 parts water. If you are going to be cleaning your crystal chandeliers on a regular basis this may be a more cost effective route than buying premade solutions.
