Light Switches

A light switch is a device used to switch electrical lights on and off. You may think not much design and style goes into a light switch and so you may as well simply choose the cheapest as no one will notice it anyway. In actual fact there are many different styles of light switches today and some are very funky and modern and others are more traditional and old fashioned. The light switches in your home can make a real difference to the overall décor and feel of your home. Here is a look at some of the different types of light switches that are available today and which style they are better suited to.

Light Switch Colour

You have a choice in the colour of your light switches and so choose a colour that will fit in with the rest of homes décor. For example there is a choice of chrome, brass, dual, black, white, and childrens. White light switches are the most popular choice as it doesn’t attract take any attention to itself once it’s on the wall because it blends in with the walls and skirting board. Chrome is perfect for modern and contemporary homes, and brass is more fitted to traditional styled homes. A range of finishes are available including Brushed Chrome, Polished Chrome, Black Chrome, Brushed Brass, Polished Brass and Antique Brass.

Light Switch Rocker / Button Variation

With light switches the main key part of the design is the rocker / button, in fact it is the only design feature. Due to this there are many different rocker / button designs to choose from including buttons, toggles, dimmer switches, and a pull chain or cord. Light switch rocker / buttons are the most common because they are the cheapest and again they fit into the background nicely and so fit into most styled homes. Toggles are not very common but in a chrome setting look very funky and stylish. A pull chain or cord is quite an old fashioned style and so would be better suited to a more traditional themed house. Dimmer switches for lighting are becoming more and more popular nowadays because it is an eco friendly light switch. You can control how much light is projected out through the dimmer and so you use less electricity which saves cost and it saves the environment.
