If you are hosting a party either in your home or a marquee or hall the most important factor to take into consideration is the
lighting. The lighting of your party can make the world of difference and will change the entire theme and mood of the event. To begin with in order to choose the correct lighting for your party is to decide what type of party you are going to throw. For example is the party a sophisticated black tie event, or is it a wild hen party, or maybe your parents’ 40th wedding anniversary with family. Knowing who you are catering for will help you decide what type of lighting is most appropriate.
The next step is to think about when the party is going to take place for example is it in the summer when it stays lighter for longer in the evening or will it be in the winter months where at 7pm its pitch black outside. Not only do you need to consider the season and month but the time of day the party is gong to take place. A child’s party during the day will require different
lighting than a teenage party set at night time. Now think about the type of activities that will occur at the party and what lighting would work best for these activities, again a childrens party with lots of games, crayoning and painting will require bright task driven lighting whereas as a family celebration which entails mostly of drinking, chatting and a buffet would look better with soft mood lighting to make people feel more relaxed. If you are planning a party for a younger crowd you may even think about strobe lighting for the dance floor, or if your party has a theme such as Halloween you can use different colours of
lighting such as green or red to add to the atmosphere of the night. No matter what your event or guest list you need to choose the perfect lighting to set the night off in the right way.
