Lighting is used to create some or other effect. One deliberately applies these affects to buildings, art pieces and other center points to create an artistic statement. This does not only relate to artificial lights, it also refers to the rays from the sun that is used for offices and homes. These rays enter the windows and skylight and are usually the main source of light during the day.

 

Artificial lighting consumes a very large amount of energy. Some museums, state buildings and tourist attractions are light during the evening and these components used draws a considerable amount of electricity. The fixtures used come in various styles and various functions. In most cases one would install these fixtures to avoid visual glare.

 

The most important property of the fixtures would be the luminous and wall plug efficiency. This means the amount of watts the light will draw from the energy supply when turned on. There are also two common methods used. Downlighting is used when the fixtures are placed in the ceiling and shines the illumination down. Uplighting is used when fixtures are placed in such a way that the rays shine on the ceiling and bounces back on other areas of the room.

 

Floodlights are used to illuminate sporting areas and arenas. These fixtures have the ability to shine on very large areas and also provide very strong illumination. They are made from metal halides or high pressure sodium. Security fixtures also shine extremely bright rays and in most cases the same are used as at sporting stadiums.

 

Lights are not only limited to lighting buildings. Cars also have these very important fixtures installed. Headlamps are used during night time driving and indicators are used to show to other vehicles in what direction the driver aims to go. Currently these fixtures are blended into the overall design of the car so that it offers more than just lightning, but also a sense of style.
