Lighting Your Rooms
Whether you are remodelling your home or starting from scratch considering all the
lighting fixtures in your home can feel an overwhelming task. A great course of action to take is to think about each room individually and make a note on paper before you actually go out and buy anything. Thinking on paper lets you get all your thoughts out of your head so you feel less pressured and it leaves you to think more clearly. Here are some tips to think about for some rooms in your home.
Bathroom Lighting – the lighting used in your bathroom requires special consideration especially around the mirror area. All too often in bathrooms many shadows are created which makes it hard putting on make up, shaving etc.
Lighting near your mirror needs to come from all angles to decrease the risk of shadows. A light above the shower is a great option and accent lighting around some plants gives it that modern touch.
Porches and Hallways – some people forget about lighting these areas because they aren’t specific rooms in the house but they are probably the most important. These are the areas you first see and so set the whole scene of your home. If you have high ceilings then low hanging lighting is best as it draws the ceiling down comfortably, if you have low ceilings go for spot lights and other recessed lighting fixtures as this will give more height to your hall way.
Living Room – the lights in the living room are probably the most diverse as many different types are required. A main light is required usually a pendant or chandelier, wall lights are good for a more relaxing atmosphere at night time, and lamps in the corners to open up the room. Accent
lighting is great in living rooms as it is generally a place where you spend a lot of time especially socializing.
