What Are Downlights?
Downlights are a particular type of lighting fixtures that direct the light downwards rather than upwards. Downlights have become more and more popular over the last decade and as a result a vast amount of downlight choices are available on the market today. Here we look at some of the different types of downlights fixtures and which rooms of the house they suit the most and why.
Pendant Lighting – Pendant lights are a type of downlight because it directs the light downwards. There are however some pendant light fixtures that direct the light upwards in which case would not be defined as a downlight. Pendant lights come in an array of different styles, designs, colours, and themes. Whatever the décor of your home you will be able to find a pendant light to suit. Pendant lights look great in hallways, dining rooms, and living rooms. Due to the beautiful detail on some pendant lights they are used as a decorative piece in the home and so place in rooms that will show them off.
Spotlights – Spotlights have become one of the most popular type of lighting fixture to date. In most new homes that are built the majority of the lighting fixtures are spotlights. Spotlights are great because they do not take up any of the space within the room, which is good if your rooms are small, they give off maximum light, they are usually powered by a dimmer so you can have different mood lighting, and they are very cost effective. Spotlights fit in perfectly with modern and contemporary homes and look great in most rooms including bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens, and hallways.
Semi Flush Ceiling Lights – The term semi flush refers to the light fixture being flush to the ceiling but not all the way because its semi. These types of downlights are very popular and look great in bathrooms and kitchens. There are many different styles to choose from so you can find a light to match your colour scheme and décor.
